This year’s Grammys was a huge night for Beyoncé, who finally won “Album of the Year” for her country inspired album “Cowboy Carter”. Presented to her by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, Beyoncé accepted the award while standing next to her daughter, Blue Ivy. She is the first Black woman to win the award since Lauryn Hill in 1999. Queen Bey also emerged victorious in the “Best Country Album” category for Cowboy Carter and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” with Miley Cyrus. Beyonce also made history becoming the first Black woman to win an award in a country category since the Pointer Sisters in 1974.

Doechii delivered a stand out performance before winning “Best Rap Album” for her mixtape, “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” During her acceptance speech, Doechii delivered a heartfelt message that acknowledged her position in history as only the third female to win the award.

Kendrick Lamar also had a record breaking night. His hit diss track “Not Like Us” won all five awards it was nominated for: “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, “Best Rap Song”, “Best Rap Performance” and “Best Music Video”. It is the first ever diss song to win a Grammy and the most awarded rap song in Grammys history. Kendrick is also just the second rapper to win “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” following Childish Gambino in 2019. During his “Record of the Year” acceptance speech, Kendrick dedicated the award to his late auntie who he revealed had passed away the day before, as well as the city of Los Angeles which was ravaged by wildfires in January.

Other winers of the night include Chris Brown’s “11:11( Deluxe)” winning “Best R&B Album”, SZA winning “Best R&B Song” for “Snooze”, and Muni Long won “Best R&B Performance” for “Made for Me”.
